We are celebrating 25 years of business development in North Friesland!

For 25 years, Wirtschaftsförderung Nordfriesland (WFG NF) has been passionately committed to strengthening North Friesland as a business location, launching innovative projects and actively shaping the sustainable development of the region. The WFG celebrates this special anniversary on January 20, 2026 – an occasion to pause and look back on what has been achieved.

At the same time, the anniversary offers the opportunity to look ahead: to the formative successes of the past years as well as to the challenges and opportunities that the future holds for North Friesland. Read the exciting interview with Dr. Matthias Hüppauff, who is also celebrating his 25th anniversary in his position as Managing Director this year.

What have been the three biggest successes or highlights in the last 25 years?

One major success was the noticeable upturn in the renewable energy sector. By supporting EE.SH and the wind test field, new, sustainable sources of income were created, particularly in smaller communities. This not only strengthened regional value creation, but also made an important contribution to the sustainable development of the country.

Another focus was – and still is – on supporting people. Business founders in particular benefit from the wide range of advisory and training services on offer. Formats such as the start-up camps offer space for exchange, practical knowledge and the courage to successfully implement your own ideas.

Location marketing plays a central role as the third highlight. The “Moin Lieblingsland” campaign is an example of the positive development and emotional appeal of the location. At the same time, social media is becoming increasingly important in marketing and helps to increase reach, address target groups in a targeted manner and create a strong identification with the location.”

What makes the WFG special and what role do the employees play in this?

“The WFG’s particular strength lies in its dedicated and diverse team. Each employee has proven expertise in their own specialist area and assumes responsibility for it independently. This high degree of independence and creative freedom creates space for innovative ideas and efficient work. At the same time, our daily work is characterized by strong support from politicians and the administration. This trusting support forms a central basis for our joint success and enables us to implement projects sustainably and effectively.”

Where will the WFG be in five to ten years?

“The WFG will continue to adapt flexibly to new topics and developments in the future. I see particularly great potential in the areas of digitalization and artificial intelligence, which open up new opportunities for business and administration alike. At the same time, there is an opportunity to further strengthen our presence in the municipalities. Formats and approaches such as “Village or Municipality 4.0″ could be specifically supported and further developed – with a clear focus on owners and local stakeholders. In this way, innovations can be anchored directly on site and have a lasting impact,” says Managing Director Dr. Matthias Hüppauff.
