UAM-InnoRegion-SH: WIR! Funding Guidelines Extended Through the End of 2029

Good news for UAM-InnoRegion-SH: The funding guideline “WIR! – Change Through Innovation in the Region” has been extended until the end of December 2029 for the alliances selected in the second round. This also opens up new opportunities for UAM-InnoRegion-SH to further develop its successful work in northern Schleswig-Holstein.

More Time for Innovation and Structural Change

Through the WIR! program, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) supports regional alliances in driving innovation and thereby strengthening long-term structural change in economically disadvantaged regions.

This is exactly where the UAM-InnoRegion-SH project comes in: Together with companies, universities, research institutions, and public sector partners, we are developing new applications for civilian drone technology in rural and maritime areas.

Following the successful midterm evaluation, the alliance now has 13.85 million euros in funding available for the entire period. The funding guidelines, which have now been extended, also provide an additional timeframe through the end of 2029, thereby opening up new prospects for the alliance’s further development.

Drone Technology That Brings Added Value to the Region

The projects completed to date and those currently planned demonstrate just how diverse the potential applications of drones are: from medical care to nature conservation, coastal protection, and disaster response, all the way to agriculture, logistics, and offshore applications.

Our goal goes beyond individual research projects. We want to help create new skills, business models, and skilled jobs in northern Schleswig-Holstein and strengthen the region as a hub for civilian drone technology in the long term.

As the North Frisia Economic Development Agency, we coordinate the UAM-InnoRegion-SH initiative and bring the various stakeholders together. The extension of the WIR! funding guidelines is therefore a positive sign for us: It gives us additional leeway to build on the progress made so far and to develop the “Schleswig-Holstein Drone Region” in a sustainable manner.
