On the Way to Net Zero Valley North Frisia Helps Shape the Future
Schleswig-Holstein is applying to become a model region for the European Net Zero Valley initiative. The goal is to pool the state’s strengths in the field of climate-friendly technologies and ensure the long-term sustainability of the region as a business location. The North Frisia Economic Development Agency is supporting this initiative as a partner and is actively contributing the region’s potential to the joint application process.
The concept of Net Zero Valley stems from the European Net Zero Industry Act . It describes regions in which businesses, local governments, academia, and policymakers work together to advance the development of climate-friendly technologies. At the same time, the goal is to create framework conditions that facilitate innovation, promote investment, and expedite permitting processes. The goal is to combine climate protection with economic development.
Schleswig-Holstein offers excellent conditions for this: a high supply of renewable energy, a strong small and medium-sized business sector, innovative companies, and extensive experience in the fields of wind energy, hydrogen, and other future technologies. These strengths are to be integrated even more closely in the future.
The bid to become a “Net Zero Valley” aims to further strengthen Schleswig-Holstein’s position as an attractive location for climate-friendly industry and innovation. Companies can benefit from improved funding opportunities, new partnerships along regional value chains, and greater international visibility. At the same time, faster approval processes and targeted infrastructure development are intended to facilitate investment and create new jobs.
The focus is particularly on technologies for renewable energy, hydrogen, battery storage, alternative fuels, and other solutions for decarbonizing industry. Companies, research institutions, and local governments were invited to submit their projects and ideas as part of the joint application process.
As a partner in this initiative, the North Frisia Economic Development Agency is participating in the statewide initiative and is committed to raising awareness of the region’s unique expertise and projects. North Frisia already has extensive experience in the use of renewable energy and offers ideal conditions for actively helping to shape the transition to a climate-neutral economy.
Together with other economic development agencies, the WTSH, and numerous partners from the business, academic, and government sectors, the North Frisia Economic Development Agency is working to position Schleswig-Holstein as a leading model region for climate-friendly technologies in Europe.
