Projects

GrønBusiness project (2023-2026)

The project GrønBusiness was implemented as part of the Interreg6A program from April 2023 to March 2026. The aim was to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the German-Danish border region on their way to ecologically, socially and economically sustainable business development.

Goals and priorities

GrønBusiness was aimed in particular at smaller companies that do not have their own resources for comprehensive sustainability strategies. The focus was on the three central fields of action:

  • Ecology
  • Social affairs
  • Corporate governance

A particular focus was on the transition to a circular economy and the development of sustainable business models.

Measures and offers in the project

Over the course of the project, a wide range of support services were developed and implemented:

  • Information, workshop and networking events
  • Provision of practical tools for sustainable transformation
  • Development of customized information services for SMEs
  • Building up know-how within business development
  • Visualization of best practice examples from the region

The measures were designed jointly by German and Danish business development agencies and scientifically supported by university partners.

The aim of the funding was to raise companies’ awareness of sustainable business practices in the long term and to provide concrete impetus for implementation.

The project was funded by Interreg Germany-Danmark and co-financed by the European Union.

EE.SH is one of six strategic innovation clusters in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The EE.SH team supports companies in Schleswig-Holstein’s renewable energy sector:

  • in the acquisition of project funds and project partners for the implementation of innovation and transformation projects;
  • in public relations work for the acceptance of renewable energies.

The sponsor of the EE.SH project is WFG NF. In this way, it supports companies, businesses, freelancers and the self-employed in North Friesland in order to create and maintain jobs in the region.

In order to further develop the economic landscape on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein in line with the green transformation, an inventory was first carried out. Based on this, the four west coast districts worked together with the regional economic development agencies, the chambers of industry and commerce and the local companies to develop a catalog of measures for more sustainable economic development.

The sustainability goals of the United Nations – specifically the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 7 to 13)– formed the basis of the future concept derived from this. The project concluded with the consolidation of all results and concrete measures in a project proposal in the fall of 2024.

The West Coast region successfully applied for a three-year implementation phase from 01.01.2025 with its future concept.

The project was an initiative of the West Coast Regional Cooperation and was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

North Friesland is a pioneer in the use of renewable energies and the implementation of community energy projects. Schleswig-Holstein wants to completely decarbonize its economy and become the first climate-neutral industrial state.

The “Climate-neutral economy NF” project aims to supplement this process with measures tailored to North Friesland.

The aim is to show how decarbonization can succeed in a rural region characterized by small and medium-sized, craft and tourism businesses, taking into account all aspects of sustainability and involving citizens.
